Many clients with pending adjustment of status applications (Form I-485) apply for and receive Advance Parole travel documents (Form I-512). The recent Executive Order pausing humanitarian parole programs does not apply to such Advance Parole documents. Nevertheless, there could be confusion over which parole documents remain valid in this rapidly-evolving immigration landscape.
Individuals with underlying H or L status should continue to renew their nonimmigrant status and use H or L visas for travel where possible.
Those who feel it is necessary to travel using a valid Advance Parole document should be prepared for increased scrutiny when returning to the U.S., and should carry with them a copy of their I-485 receipt notice and Regional Carrier Liaison Guidance document below. These documents may be offered if the inspecting Customs and Border Protection officer questions the validity of an unexpired Advance Parole document Form I-512 presented when seeking admission.
